Manipulation is the therapeutic cracking of a joint with a quick thrust, it is a quick gentle procedure.
Physiotherapists will manipulate only when there are specific indications to do so. We believe that living tissue responds better to the persuasive joint-stretching techniques of mobilisation to free a joint progressively over a period of time, rather than to a sudden quick thrust. This process is kinder to the joints and the effects are longer lasting.
